Picture a runner before his first marathon. He knows he can only enter the race once he has properly trained, which he has. Long. Hard. Persistently with perseverance. He concentrated on his goal. His family, his friends, his favourite food, many things came secondary to his training. The most important thing for him was to stay focused. He wants to make it, he wants to successfully complete this marathon. 

From the second the whistle blows, he knows only one goal. To arrive at the finish line. No matter how, his training has to pay off! Near the end of the marathon, he is battling through physical and mental exhaustion. He drags himself to the next refresher station. He only has a few more kilometers to go. The energy gel gives him new power. With his goal in mind, he fights his way to the finish line. As he crosses, he can feel nothing but triumph coursing through his body. He did it! 

In comparison, life is just like a marathon run. It’s not going to be easy, but it’s going to be worth it. Training is needed. Therefore, make sure to spend time in the word and with God to mentally train for the marathon of life. Keep heavenly goals in mind so that when times get hard, you can remind yourself of your “why”. Thankfully, we have the certainty that God will carry us through, even during the most difficult times. Jesus invites all that are weary and burdened to come to him and he will give them rest. He will give them new strength. Let Jesus be your energy gel when you’re exhausted. Let him refresh your soul, not the things of this world. He will bring you to the finish line of life triumphantly when you chose to run with and for him.
