An elderly lady told me about an experience she had at the end of the Second World War. Back then, as a young girl, she lived just north of Vienna when the news broke “The Russians are on their way!”
They should be their liberators, but they didn’t have a good reputation. They drank, looted houses and were after women. They hid in the basement and feared to be found.
It doesn’t have to be such a dramatic situation that scares us. However, we know: fear can paralyze and take our breath. It hamstrings us.
Jesus says: Yes, that’s the case! In the world you have fear. However, he offers a new perspective: I overcame the world. When we focus on Jesus we experience that he will carry us through tough times and gives security and peace.
These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.
says Jesus in John 16:33 from the Bible
Do you experience this, too?
