The King and the Donkey

What a turmoil. Little Harim* sneaks through the row and sees a man riding through the allies on a donkey. The people shouted: “Hosiannah, the Son of David! Blessed be he who comes in the Name of the Lord!” They broke branches of trees and waved them in the air. They put their clothes on the street to welcome the long awaited “King of Peace”.

Harim had heard a lot about Jesus and observed everything carefully. The Romans always appeared on horses and brutally demonstrated their power. Jesus was completely different and didn’t need to show off. He had a very special presence without being in the limelight.

Being deeply impressed, Harim felt peace with the thought that this man was the expected Messiah, the God sent King and Son of God. Harim was glad that he met Jesus himself so he didn’t have to put up with strange rumors from the religious. He thought a donkey was very fitting since he had heard that Jesus would carry the weight of the world.

Harim was happy and shouted with everyone else: “Hosiannah, the King who comes!”

Rejoice greatly, Daughter Zion! Shout, Daughter Jerusalem! See, your king comes to you, righteous and victorious, lowly and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.

Prophet Zechariah 9:9

What would I have done in Harim’s place?
