After his crucifixion, Jesus’s body was laid in a tomb. But the tomb was empty on the third day. The religious leaders, who had demanded his death, and the Romans, who had crucified him, searched for an explanation. They couldn’t believe that Jesus had actually risen from the dead and was alive.
Because I live, you also will live.
John 14:19
There are many pieces of evidence that support the resurrection:
- Despite being heavily guarded, the heavy stone in front of the grave had been rolled, and the grave clothes had been neatly folded–an uncharacteristic picture of a theft.
- The disciples, who were convinced about the empty grave and their encounter with the risen Lord up until their death, would hardly have been willing to put up with so much suffering for a lie.
- Additionally, Jesus interacted with many people after his resurrection–more than 500 witnesses reported about these encounters. He even ate with them in order to dispel any doubts.
The resurrection of Jesus is not a fairy tale, but it is the foundation of my faith. And because he lives, I believe in a living God.
Do you believe in Jesus, who is still alive today?
