In a relay race, the following applies: after a certain distance has been covered, the baton must be passed on and given to the next team member. Passing on the baton is not only appropriate in sporting competitions, but also in faith.
Entrust my instruction to those who are faithful to me; they shall guard and preserve my message.
Isaiah 8:16
Isaiah, a prophet of God, was to pass on his baton in the form of God’s intentions and commands to the people of Israel. He should and could expect that certain recipients would have good intentions with what had been given to them and would themselves become messengers.
Many centuries later, a man named Timothy was asked to pass on the message he had received about God’s love for us humans. This massage continues to be passed on to this day.
Have you ever had someone tell you about this message, a friend, a family member, or perhaps a stranger who gave you a Bible verse? If so, what did you do with it?
