A woman enters a house, seemingly full of self-assurance. She has only one specific goal: Jesus! She must get to Jesus!
She approaches him. Suddenly, tears roll down her face, falling directly onto Jesus’ feet. She reacts spontaneously by wiping the tears away with her hair. Then she kisses his feet, over and over again. Finally, she even pours an expensive oil over his feet.
Unbelievable! From the perspective of the religious leaders with whom Jesus is, she defiles him with every touch. The Bible says she is a sinner, a woman who was rejected in those days. Yet Jesus does not reject her! He allows her to do this, thereby acknowledging her trust. What are the consequences of this for this woman?
Therefore, I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven – as her great love has shown. But whoever has been forgiven little loves little.’
Luke 7,47
Jesus looks at her and grants her forgiveness. That is precisely her hope, her faith, her goal. That is why she wanted to come to Jesus.

When something inspires us, we talk about it. We recommend a film, share a song or recount an experience. Enthusiasm is contagious – and influences others.
This is exactly what influencers thrive on. People follow them, listen to their recommendations and draw inspiration from them. But who or what actually influences your life?
Jesus wants to be more than just someone we follow or whose ideas we like. Following him means trusting him and modelling our own lives on him.
And that makes a difference. The Bible compares it to a tree that bears good fruit: what grows within us will eventually become visible on the outside. In our words, our decisions and in the way we treat other people.
Those who live with Jesus discover more and more how God intended life to be. His love changes our hearts – and what fills our hearts also shapes what we pass on to others.
For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.

The postman very kindly places my post in my hands. One envelope in particular catches my eye. I look at the sender’s name, which is unfamiliar to me, and without thinking, I tell the postman to take it back. ‘Refused,’ he writes on it! It was only years later that I realised I’d turned down a brilliant offer.
Fortunately, I didn’t treat God’s love letter in the same way. Sadly, many reject His offer, which determines life and death. Perhaps it’s simply that the postman is unfriendly, the colour of the envelope isn’t trendy enough, or simply because they’re in a bad mood. Some refuse to accept it quite deliberately because God is the sender and they want nothing to do with Him …
He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him.

The Bible is God’s love letter to you. God wants to offer you eternal, fulfilled life.

Sometimes we base our lives on what others expect of us. At other times, we simply do what feels right and good to us at that moment. But who actually decides how you should live your life?
The Bible points to yet another possibility: trusting in Jesus and letting him guide your life. Paul describes it this way:
«I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me.»
Galatians 2,20a
This does not mean that we lose our personality or our freedom. It means that we trust Jesus and let him guide us. For God knows us, loves us and has our best interests at heart.
Jesus illustrates this with a simple image: a good father would never give his child anything dangerous when they ask him for something good (Luke 11:11). In the same way, we can trust that God does not wish to harm us.
God willed and created every human being. And he has a good plan for this world. The Bible promises that Jesus will return and that God’s justice will finally be made visible. Those who trust in Jesus can be certain: my future lies with him.
The question is therefore not just: ‘What do I want?’ or ‘What do others expect of me?’ but also:
‘Can I trust Jesus and leave the guidance of my life in his hands?’
