What does truly matter in life? What’s important? A load of offers, advice and books that promise to be the gold we are searching for. In this vast selection, it is difficult to recognize the truly precious. Like unsuccessful hunters, we are hunting, both driven and chased, after the prey and remain empty handed after all.
What is truly important? This question also moved a man from the Bible. “Love God with all your heart” and “love your fellow man”, Jesus answered. If what you do, no matter how good it is, is done without love, it is done in vain. It is not about doing more and hustle endlessly. God wants a relationship with you. Let your gifts, Christmas greetings and conversations be infused with God’s love. Without love everything is nothing.
But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us
Romans 5:8
“Love Parade” “Make Love not War“ – “Love is Love” – hundreds of protests, stickers and campaigns that demand “more love”. The cry for love is as big as never before. Nonetheless, the brokenness in families and relationships is everywhere. We all have the deep wish to be loved. Humans are not able to love perfectly. Disappointment and disruption is part of our relationships.
God’s love is different. God’s love is perfect. He loves us even if we are against him. God’s love is eternal and does not break. It conquers boundaries that we cannot conquer ourselves. Your heart is made so it can be loved by God’s perfect love. Any other form of love does not suffice.
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
John 3:16
“God loves you!” How often have you heard this sentence in Sunday school or in church? “God loves you!” as if it was the most normal thing in the world, these words no longer touch our hearts. For many, this has become a Christian platitude.
What does it mean that God loves you? The creator of the heavens and the earth, this almighty God loves you. He gave up his rights and left his throne to become human. His life on earth was penetrated by the love for us people., each step to the cross. He didn’t stop at the cross. His love for us has conquered death.
What would change in your life if you would live knowing that God loves you unconditionally?
