After his execution and the officially confirmed death, Jesus was laid in the tomb and truly rose on the third day. The religious elite who demanded his death as well as the Romans who crucified him tried to find proof that Jesus’ body was stolen. They could not believe that he had risen and that he lived. Ultimately, they paid Roman soldiers to spread the lie that the body was stolen. We are looking at a few reasons that speak for Jesus’ resurrection.
The tomb was empty, the seal broken and the tomb stone rolled away despite strong security. Thieves would have been caught swiftly through Roman intelligence.
All disciples stuck to the resurrection until their last day even though many of them were tortured and killed. They witnessed the empty grave and the resurrection just as Jesus had predicted it. The disciples would not have suffered martyr death for a lie.
In contrast, the guards fled. They feared the death sentence. The religious leaders bribed the soldiers so they would spread the lie that the disciples had stolen and hidden the body. This way, the situation was twisted officially.
The death clothes were found folded neatly. If the body was stolen, the clothes would have likely stayed on the body. Romans and Jews would have found the body quickly and would have shown it off as witnesses would have come forward! The questionable behavior of authorities (bribe, denial, false information) hints that something truly phenomenal must have happened. There must have been great perplexity.
Despite all problems and differences of opinion, Jesus’ resurrection is well proven. Jesus predicted it himself. Centuries before the occurrence the Prophets i.e. Isaiah wrote down very detailed accounts about future happenings.
More than 500 men were live witnesses of his resurrection. He met many in person, ate fish in front of their eyes to eliminate all doubt.
Facts do not create relationships. It is solely faith in the resurrected Son of God that creates new life.
He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay.
