As a child, I was allowed to write a Christmas wish list every year. I had many wishes, big and small, but only my three most important wishes ever made it onto the list. At Christmas, I was of course very happy when I was allowed to unwrap these precious gifts.
Over time, however, the significance of Christmas gifts has diminished – it has almost been forgotten. To be honest, I can’t remember what I got for Christmas when I was nine years old.
But the greatest Christmas gift won’t be under the tree this year either. Because this gift wasn’t bought or wrapped. It doesn’t belong to you or me alone. God gave us all this greatest gift on the first Christmas. Jesus came into the world!
For a child has been born, the future king has been given to us! And these are the honourable names that will be given to him: prudent ruler, mighty hero, eternal father, prince of peace.
Isaiah 9:5
What is the greatest gift for you?
