As a child, I couldn’t really understand the point of brushing my teeth. My parents had to keep reminding me. It wasn’t until years later that I realised how important it is, namely to avoid expensive dental treatment – a real change of perspective!
It’s similar when it comes to Sunday, a weekly day of rest that is often seen as outdated today. In Judaism, the Sabbath is celebrated as a weekly holiday, and for Christians, Sunday can take on this role. Sunday is a gift from God so that we can rest and rejoice in what we have achieved during the week.
Thus the heavens and the earth were completed in all their vast array.
By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work. 3 Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.
Genesis 2:1-3
This day of rest offers us much needed rest and brings a soothing rhythm to our lives. It is not just a rule, but a valuable gift that gives us strength and refreshes our soul.
Consciously take time for this day of rest and think about how you can organise it to really calm down and recharge your batteries.
