It was big News! Jesus called Lazarus who had died from his grave and gave him new life. When Jesus came back to Bethany, a big feast was celebrated to honor him. Martha and Mary, Lazarus’ sisters were busy preparing.
While Martha served guests, Mary approached Jesus with a vale of precious, aromatic oil and poured it over his feet. She did it out of gratefulness since she hadn’t only experienced the resurrection of her brother. Jesus has done good many times. Salvation meant so much to her, that she “wasted” everything she had. That angered Judas who sometimes helped himself to funds from the collective money box*. God acts a lot more “wasteful” than Mary by giving his only son to free us from sin and guild. Everyone who trusts Jesus won’t be lost but saved. That’s the most wonderful message of the world. Can anyone decline God’s generous offer? No time or material advantage can be weighed against it!
Whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.John 3:16b
