I love decorated Christmas trees during Advent. For me, I have to have a shining, powerful star at the top. When I sing ‘Star over Bethlehem’, I look at this star and imagine the Christmas story with this extraordinary star.
This star has a very special meaning. It suddenly appeared in the sky and alerted the whole world to the birth of the King of Kings, Jesus.
I see him, but not now; I behold him, but not near. A star will come out of Jacob; a scepter will rise out of Israel.
Numbers 24:17
It is interesting that this star was visible in the sky at exactly the right time. Anyone with a little knowledge of astronomy knows that some stars have already burned up before they can be seen in our evening sky. Many stars are hundreds of light years away from Earth, the Pole Star, for example, is about 430 light years away.
The fact that God himself was born as a human being in Jesus was therefore not a spontaneous whim of God, but was predetermined to the day. So precisely that God made a new star twinkle in the sky at exactly the right time. That is simply amazing!
And this star was not just visible for a few days, it must have been in the sky for several weeks to attract the attention of the wise men from the distant Orient. They found the star so interesting that they traveled in the direction it pointed them. In the Roman province of Judah, in Israel, they finally found Jesus and his parents.

I read in a study that practicing gratitude for just two minutes a day makes a significant difference to our lives! It has been discovered that this makes us happier and more successful at work. The more you practice gratitude, the better it is for your brain.
“Give thanks to God the Father at all times for everything in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
Ephesians 5:20
Today I live more consciously thankful, not because of the study that was done, but because I have learned to be thankful to my Creator for everything in life.
The appropriate Bible text tells of ten lepers that Jesus healed. Unfortunately, only one came back to Jesus, fell down before him and thanked him. Jesus said to him: “Your faith has saved you.” His gratitude became salvation for this man!
Ten were healed, but only one prostrated himself before Jesus. He recognized that God had made him well. Jesus is God. It is this faith that not only saves us from the consequences of physical illness, but also from the consequences of rebellion against God.
I personally also believe in Jesus Christ. He has given me a new, eternal life. I am deeply grateful to Jesus for that!

In einer Studie habe ich gelesen, dass unser Leben wesentlich verändert wird, wenn wir bereits zwei Minuten pro Tag Dankbarkeit üben! Man hat entdeckt, dass dies glücklicher und erfolgreicher im Job macht. Je mehr man Dankbarkeit trainiert, umso besser ist es für unser Gehirn.
«Dankt Gott, dem Vater, zu jeder Zeit für alles im Namen unseres Herrn Jesus Christus.»
Epheser 5,20
Heute lebe ich bewusster dankbar, nicht wegen der Studie, die gemacht worden ist, sondern weil ich gelernt habe, meinem Schöpfer für alles im Leben dankbar zu sein.
Der passende Bibeltext berichtet von zehn Aussätzigen, die Jesus geheilt hat. Leider kam nur einer zu Jesus zurück, fiel vor ihm nieder und bedankte sich. Jesus sagte zu ihm: «Dein Glaube hat dich gerettet.» Seine Dankbarkeit wurde für diesen Mann zur Rettung!
Zehn wurden gesund, aber nur einer warf sich vor Jesus nieder. Er erkannte, dass Gott ihn gesund gemacht hatte. Jesus ist Gott. Dieser Glaube ist es, der nicht nur vor den Folgen körperlicher Krankheit rettet, sondern auch von den Folgen der Auflehnung gegen Gott.
Ich persönlich glaube auch an Jesus Christus. Er hat mir ein neues, ewiges Leben geschenkt. Dafür bin ich Jesus von Herzen dankbar!

Auf meiner Tansania-Reise habe ich Eddy getroffen. Er erzählte mir die Geschichte seiner Heimat. Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts wurde Tansania kolonialisiert. Eddys Vorfahren wurden unterdrückt und ausgenutzt. Die Deutsche Kolonialmacht bereicherte sich auf Kosten der Einwohner von Tansania. Wer der neuen Regierung nicht Gehorsam leistete, musste mit dem Tod rechnen. Mehrere tausend Menschen verloren in der Zeit ihr Leben.
Erschüttert von der Ungerechtigkeit, die mir Eddy schilderte, fragte ich, ob es ihm heute, aufgrund dieser tragischen Geschichte, schwerfällt, einem Deutschen zu begegnen. «Hakuna Matata!», war seine Antwort, was so viel bedeutet wie: alles in Ordnung oder keine Streitigkeiten. «Wir müssen einander vergeben, so lebt es sich viel leichter», erzählte er. Eddy hat verstanden, dass Frieden nur durch Vergebung möglich ist. Dies gilt auch für die Beziehung zwischen Mensch und Gott.

Kolosser 1,14
Durch die Rebellion des Menschen ist es in der Beziehung zu Gott zu einer Trennung gekommen. Gott möchte, dass in dieser Beziehung Frieden herrscht. Durch seinen Tod am Kreuz bahnte Jesus den Weg für den Frieden zwischen dir und ihm. Er entschied sich, dir zu vergeben.

I met Eddy on my trip to Tanzania. He told me the history of his homeland. Tanzania was colonized at the end of the 19th century. Eddy’s ancestors were oppressed and exploited. The German colonial power turned rich at the expense of the inhabitants of Tanzania. Anyone who did not obey the new government had to expect death. Several thousand people lost their lives during this time.
Shocked by the injustice that Eddy described to me, I asked him whether he finds it difficult to meet a German today because of this tragic history. ‘Hakuna Matata!’ was his answer, which means everything is fine or no arguments. ‘We have to forgive each other, it’s much easier to live that way,’ he said. Eddy understood that peace is only possible through forgiveness. This also applies to the relationship between man and God.
‘In Jesus we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.’
Colossians 1:14
Our rebellion has led to a separation in our relationship with God. God wants peace in this relationship. Through his death on the cross, Jesus paved the way for peace between you and him. He decided to forgive you.
