Joseph was an honorable craftsman and Israelite, a direct descendant of King David. He was engaged to Mary. His fiancée traveled to visit her relatives for three months. When she returned, Joseph realized that she was pregnant. What a shock, his fiancée had cheated on him!
Joseph wanted to save Mary from the death penalty for adultery, as they were already considered a couple. He wanted to leave her secretly.
Then an angel appeared to Joseph and said: ‘Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife!’
Matthew 1:20
How much courage, strength and trust in God this Joseph had! Instead of thinking of himself and his reputation, he trusted God. He accepted God’s plan for him, Mary and this unborn child. He married his pregnant Mary and became the stepfather of God’s son!

Josef war ein ehrbarer Handwerker und Israelit, ein direkter Nachfahre von König David. Er war mit Maria verlobt. Seine Verlobte reiste für drei Monate zu ihren Verwandten. Als sie zurückkehrte, bemerkte Josef, dass sie schwanger war. Was für ein Schock, seine Verlobte hatte ihn betrogen!
Josef wollte Maria vor der Todesstrafe bewahren, die auf Ehebruch stand, galten sie doch schon als Paar. Er wollte sie heimlich verlassen.
Da erschien Josef ein Engel, der sagte: «Josef, du Nachkomme Davids, scheue dich nicht, Maria als deine Frau zu dir zu nehmen!»
Matthäus 1,20
Wie viel Mut, Stärke und Gottvertrauen hatte dieser Josef! Anstatt an sich und seinen Ruf zu denken, vertraute er Gott. Er liess sich auf Gottes Plan mit ihm, Maria und diesem ungeborenen Kind ein. Er heiratete seine schwangere Maria, damit wurde er Stiefvater von Gottes Sohn!

Ich liebe einen geschmückten Tannenbaum in der Adventszeit. Für mich muss auf der Spitze ein leuchtender, kraftvoller Stern stehen. Beim Lied «Stern über Bethlehem» sehe ich mir diesen Stern an und ich stelle mir die Weihnachtsgeschichte mit diesem aussergewöhnlichen Stern vor.
Dieser Stern hat eine ganz besondere Bedeutung. Er erschien plötzlich am Himmel und machte alle Welt auf die Geburt des Königs aller Könige, Jesus, aufmerksam.
«Ich sehe jemanden in weiter Ferne. Noch ist er nicht da, aber ich kann ihn schon erkennen. Ein Stern steigt auf bei den Nachkommen von Jakob, ein Stern erhebt sich in Israel.»
4. Mose 24,17
Interessant ist, dass dieser Stern genau zur richtigen Zeit am Himmel zu sehen war. Wer sich ein wenig mit Astronomie auskennt, weiss, dass einige Sterne bereits verglüht sind, bevor sie bei uns am abendlichen Himmel zu sehen sind. Viele Sterne sind hunderte von Lichtjahren von der Erde entfernt, der Polarstern zum Beispiel etwa 430 Lichtjahre.
Dass Gott selbst in Jesus als Mensch geboren wurde, war somit keine spontane Laune Gottes, sondern auf den Tag genau vorherbestimmt. So genau, dass Gott exakt zur richtigen Zeit einen neuen Stern am Himmel funkeln liess. Und dieser Stern war nicht nur einige Tage zu sehen, mehrere Wochen muss er am Himmel gestanden haben, um die Weisen aus dem fernen Orient auf sich aufmerksam zu machen. Sie fanden den Stern so interessant, dass sie in die Richtung reisten, die er ihnen wies. In der römischen Provinz Juda, in Israel, fanden sie schliesslich Jesus und seine Eltern.
Gott hat durch dieses Naturphänomen die Weihnachtsgeschichte geschrieben. – Welche (Natur-)Phänomene nutzt er, um zu dir zu sprechen und deine Geschichte zu gestalten?

I love decorated Christmas trees during Advent. For me, I have to have a shining, powerful star at the top. When I sing ‘Star over Bethlehem’, I look at this star and imagine the Christmas story with this extraordinary star.
This star has a very special meaning. It suddenly appeared in the sky and alerted the whole world to the birth of the King of Kings, Jesus.
I see him, but not now; I behold him, but not near. A star will come out of Jacob; a scepter will rise out of Israel.
Numbers 24:17
It is interesting that this star was visible in the sky at exactly the right time. Anyone with a little knowledge of astronomy knows that some stars have already burned up before they can be seen in our evening sky. Many stars are hundreds of light years away from Earth, the Pole Star, for example, is about 430 light years away.
The fact that God himself was born as a human being in Jesus was therefore not a spontaneous whim of God, but was predetermined to the day. So precisely that God made a new star twinkle in the sky at exactly the right time. That is simply amazing!
And this star was not just visible for a few days, it must have been in the sky for several weeks to attract the attention of the wise men from the distant Orient. They found the star so interesting that they traveled in the direction it pointed them. In the Roman province of Judah, in Israel, they finally found Jesus and his parents.

I read in a study that practicing gratitude for just two minutes a day makes a significant difference to our lives! It has been discovered that this makes us happier and more successful at work. The more you practice gratitude, the better it is for your brain.
“Give thanks to God the Father at all times for everything in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
Ephesians 5:20
Today I live more consciously thankful, not because of the study that was done, but because I have learned to be thankful to my Creator for everything in life.
The appropriate Bible text tells of ten lepers that Jesus healed. Unfortunately, only one came back to Jesus, fell down before him and thanked him. Jesus said to him: “Your faith has saved you.” His gratitude became salvation for this man!
Ten were healed, but only one prostrated himself before Jesus. He recognized that God had made him well. Jesus is God. It is this faith that not only saves us from the consequences of physical illness, but also from the consequences of rebellion against God.
I personally also believe in Jesus Christ. He has given me a new, eternal life. I am deeply grateful to Jesus for that!
