“No! No! No!” My child cries, screams, stomps and throws a fit. Being sad or seeing a sad person hurts most people. We find it difficult to make sense of why God allows sadness.
But the truth is: the world we live in is broken. Ever since Adam and Eve ate the forbidden fruit and thus showed their distrust in God, the world has not been as it was meant to be. That was the onset of sorrow and pain, of sin. But even though sadness exists, God’s promise remains: It will not win.
He will wipe away all their tears. There will be no more death, sorrow, lamentation or pain, for what once was is gone forever.
Revelation 21:4
Our limited time on earth may be full of sorrow and pain. But I have hope for a future in which I will be united with God in heaven and free from tears and sorrow.

«Ist dieses Zebra schwarz oder weiss?», fragte der Safari-Guide in Tansania, während er auf eines der Zebras in der riesigen Herde vor uns zeigte. Nach kurzem Überlegen sagte ich entschlossen «weiss», da der Bauch meiner Ansicht nach eher weiss ist. Mein Freund war der Meinung, das Zebra sei schwarz, da die Schnauze schwarz ist. Der Safari-Guide schmunzelte und erwiderte: «Ihr seid beide richtig. Das Zebra ist schwarz und weiss, das eine ergänzt das andere.»
«Urteilt nicht über andere», sagte Jesus.
Matthäus 7,1
Wir tendieren dazu, Geschehnisse, Situationen oder Menschen zu schubladisieren und zu urteilen. Wir sehen eine einzelne äussere Sache und beurteilen den ganzen Menschen nach dieser einen Sache. Doch es ist nicht deine Aufgabe, über andere zu urteilen. Das Leben bringt täglich Spannungen mit sich.
Ich erlebe Gott als Gegenüber, der mir mit Liebe und Offenheit auf Augenhöhe begegnet. Er verurteilt mich nicht, sondern hört mir zu und nimmt mich ernst. Durch Jesus Christus ist Gott selbst auf die Erde gekommen, nicht um uns zu verurteilen, sondern um uns zu helfen.
Weil Gott dir in Liebe begegnet, darfst auch du offen und auf Augenhöhe anderen Menschen begegnen, statt über sie zu urteilen.

“Is this zebra black or white?” the safari guide in Tanzania asked us while pointing to a zebra in a huge herd in front of us. After a moment of consideration, I confidently stated “white,” since, in my opinion, the stomach is mostly white. My friend was of the opinion that the zebra is black since the nose is black. The safari guide grinned and retorted, “ You are both right. The zebra is black and white; the one complements the other.”
“Do not judge other people,” Jesus said.
Matthew 7:1
We tend to put events, situations, and people in a box and to pass judgments. We see one single exterior thing and judge the whole person according to this one thing. But it is not our job to judge others. Life has its own daily pressures.
I experience God as my counterpart, who reaches out to me with love and openness right where I’m at. He doesn’t condemn me; he listens to me and takes me seriously. Through Jesus Christ, God himself came to earth, not to condemn us, but rather to help us.
Since God reaches out to you in love, you can also interact with other people as your equals and with openness instead of condemning them.
With Jesus you can encounter others in love. Are you ready for that?

«Ich kann mir meine Blumen selber kaufen und mit mir selber tanzen. Ich kann mir selbst meine Hand halten und liebe mich selbst besser als du mich jemals geliebt hast …» Ungefähr so lautet die Zusammenfassung eines Liedes, in dem eine bekannte Sängerin die Trennung von ihrem Ex-Mann verarbeitet.
Der Song schlägt Wellen, wird weltweit gehört und bricht viele Rekorde. Offensichtlich ist die Sängerin nicht die Einzige, die enttäuscht ist von der Liebe.
Tragen wir nicht alle den tiefen Wunsch nach Verbundenheit und eine Sehnsucht nach treuer Liebe in uns? Trotzdem sind zerbrochene Beziehungen und zerstrittene Familien allgegenwärtig in unserer Gesellschaft.
In der Bibel lesen wir von Jesus, der aus Liebe für uns starb. Er nahm Hass, Spott und letztendlich den Tod auf sich, um uns mit Gott zu versöhnen. Gott ist auch dann treu, wenn wir untreu sind. Seine Liebe wird uns nie enttäuschen. In ihm wird unsere Sehnsucht nach treuer Liebe gestillt.

“I can buy myself flowers and take myself dancing. I can hold my own hand and love myself better than you ever loved me…” This is a summary of the song “Flowers” by Miley Cyrus, in which she processes her separation from her ex-husband.
This song is making waves, is heard throughout the world, and is breaking many records on Spotify. Miley is apparently not the only one who has been disappointed by love.
Don’t we all carry within us the deep desire for connection and a longing for true love? Nonetheless, broken relationships and quarreling families are ever-present in our society.
In the Bible we read of Jesus who died for us out of love for us. He took all hate, mockery, and finally death itself on himself in order to reconcile us to God. God is even faithful when we are unfaithful. His love will never disappoint us. He alone can satisfy our longing for true love.
Will you let yourself be loved by God?
