Many different people attend a Christmas church service. Maybe you do too? Do you go just because it’s the thing to do, because it’s expected of you? Or do you go based on your convictions?
There’s a story in the Bible about two completely different men. They both go into the temple.
One of them goes there because he wants to please God. He knows all of God’s commandments, and they are very important to him. He prays regularly.
The second man is very different. He feels guilty. Maybe he doesn’t live an honest life; maybe he is a swindler. As a result, he calls himself a sinner! What is God’s opinion of the two men?
The first is proud and pleased with himself. The second is broken and humble. Before God, all people are sinners. No one is perfect. The second one recognized this. He knows that he needs God’s help and forgiveness. That’s why he prays: “God, have mercy on me, a sinner.”
God loves repentant sinners! Everyone can come to him. You too.
But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Seemingly self-confident, a woman enters a house. She has but one specific goal: Jesus! She has to see Jesus!
She approaches him. Suddenly tears roll down her face, directly onto the feet of Jesus. Spontaneously, she reacts by wiping the tears with her hair. Then she kisses his feet again and again. Finally, she also pours an expensive oil over his feet.
Unbelievable! From the perspective of the religious leaders Jesus is with, she defiles Jesus with each touch. In the Bible, she is called a sinner. She is supposedly a prostitute. As such, she is one who people at that time rejected. But Jesus does not reject her! He allows her to continue to do what she is doing and thereby accepts her trust. What kind of impact does this have on this woman?
Jesus looks at her and tells her that she is forgiven. Exactly that is her hope, her faith, her goal. That’s why she wanted to see Jesus.
Are there tears that you can shed before Jesus?
Forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal…

Eine Frau betritt scheinbar selbstbewusst ein Haus. Sie hat nur ein konkretes Ziel: Jesus! Sie muss zu Jesus!
Sie naht sich ihm. Plötzlich rollen ihr Tränen über’s Gesicht, direkt auf die Füsse Jesu. Spontan reagiert sie darauf, indem sie die Tränen mit ihrem Haar abwischt. Dann küsst sie seine Füsse, immer und immer wieder. Zu guter Letzt kippt sie auch noch ein teures Öl über seine Füsse.
Unfassbar! Aus der Sicht der religiösen Führer, mit denen Jesus zusammen ist, verunreinigt sie Jesus mit jeder Berührung. In der Bibel heisst es, sie ist eine Sünderin, eine Frau, die man zu dieser Zeit ablehnte. Doch Jesus weist sie nicht zurück! Er lässt ihr Tun zu und anerkennt damit ihr Vertrauen. Welche Folgen hat das für diese Frau?
Ihre vielen Sünden sind ihr vergeben; und darum hat sie mir so viel Liebe erwiesen.
Lukas 7,47
Jesus sieht sie an und spricht ihr Vergebung zu. Genau das ist ihre Hoffnung, ihr Glaube, ihr Ziel. Deswegen wollte sie zu Jesus kommen.

Wenn mich etwas begeistert, erzähle ich überall davon. Es zieht Kreise und mit der Zeit interessieren sich auch andere dafür. Firmen suchen erfolgreiche Influencer mit einem möglichst grossen Fanclub. Diese werden gut bezahlt, um für ihre Produkte zu werben.
Ein von Christus erfülltes Leben hat ebenfalls sichtbare Auswirkungen. Die Bibel spricht von Früchten, die entstehen. Sie berichtet sogar von einer Quelle lebendigen Wassers, die daraus hervorsprudelt. Wer Jesus nachfolgt, klinkt sich nicht bloss bei einem Influencer ein. Da geht es nicht um einen Fanclub oder als Mitglied zu einer Organisation zu gehören.
Wer mit Jesus lebt, vertraut sich dem wunderbaren Plan Gottes an, der ihn geschaffen hat. So darf ich erleben, dass eine göttliche Dimension mein Herz erfüllt.

When I get excited about something, I tell everyone around me about it. It has a ripple effect, and over time others also become interested in it. Companies look for successful influencers with the biggest fan clubs. These people are paid well to promote their products.
A life that is filled with Christ has a visible effect. The Bible speaks of the fruit which comes forth. It even tells of a spring of living water, which flows out. Whoever follows Jesus doesn’t just connect with an influencer. It’s not about joining a fan club or belonging to an organization.
Whoever follows Christ surrenders his self-fulfilling demands. He entrusts himself to the wonderful plan of God who created him. One’s own plans can give a sense of fulfillment. Anyone who wants to follow God’s will can experience a divine dimension that fills his heart.
