A wild storm came up. Waves crashed over the boat. It was about to sink. Jesus was in the back, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him up. They said, “Teacher! Don’t you care if we drown?”
Mark 4:37-38
Today we might ask a similar question: “Jesus, don’t you care about my health problems?” Or: “Jesus, aren’t you interested at all in my bad financial state?” And: “Jesus, don’t you care that my relationship is falling apart?”
But the story continues: He got up and ordered the wind to stop. He said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down. And it was completely calm.
Jesus didn’t become fearful like the disciples. Instead, he remained calm and confronted the storm with authority.

It seems like I will never come to a point in my life when I can say that everything is going well. Just when one challenge has been overcome, the next one is on its way. It goes on and on; somehow life is always stressful.
Will there ever be a time when everything is going well? Is there true peace and a place where our heart can truly come to rest? If not, life seems to be rather hopeless.
In the Bible, we read of a God who paints the picture of a hope-filled future, which goes beyond an earthly death.
He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away. He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!”
Revelation 21:4-5
Yes, there will be a time when my heart comes to rest. Through God I have hope that, even when difficult times and challenges await me on the earth, everything will turn out well in the end.

Es scheint mir, als würde ich im Leben niemals an den Punkt kommen, an dem ich sagen kann, dass einfach alles gut ist. Wenn man eine Herausforderung überwunden hat, wartet schon die nächste. Es geht immer weiter, das Leben ist irgendwie anstrengend.
Kommt irgendwann der Moment, an dem alles gut sein wird? Gibt es wahren Frieden und einen Ort, wo unser Herz wirklich zur Ruhe kommen kann? Wenn nicht, scheint mir das Leben ziemlich hoffnungslos.
In der Bibel lesen wir von einem Gott, der uns eine hoffnungsvolle Zukunft malt, die über den irdischen Tod hinausgeht.
Er wird alle Tränen von ihren Augen abwischen: Der Tod wird nicht mehr sein, keine Trauer, keine Klage, keine Mühsal. Denn was früher war, ist vergangen. Er, der auf dem Thron sass, sprach: Seht, ich mache alles neu.
Offenbarung 21,4+5
Ja, der Moment wird kommen, an dem mein Herz zur Ruhe kommt. Durch Gott habe ich die Hoffnung, dass, selbst wenn hier auf der Erde schwere Zeiten und Herausforderungen warten, am Ende alles gut sein wird.

Psalm 84,11
Dies ist eine Zeile aus einem Lied, das der König David geschrieben hat. Damit drückt er aus, wie kostbar die Tatsache für ihn ist, dass Gott nahbar ist. Gott ist ein reales Gegenüber, der sich nach einer innigen Beziehung mit uns sehnt.
Den Wunsch nach unvergänglicher Annahme und Liebe hat er in unsere Herzen gelegt. Es gibt viele Angebote und Möglichkeiten, mit denen wir versuchen können, diese Sehnsucht zu stillen. Doch nur in der Gegenwart des ewigen Gottes, dem Schöpfer von Himmel und Erde, finden unsere Herzen Frieden.

Die Sehnsucht blieb über all die Jahre dieselbe, Gottes Angebot, diese zu stillen, auch.

Psalm 84:10
This is a line from a song that King David wrote. This statement expresses how precious it is that God is approachable. God is a real counterpart, who yearns for an intimate relationship with us.
He has put the desire for everlasting acceptance and love in our hearts. There are many offers and possibilities we can try to use to satisfy this longing. But it is only in the presence of the eternal God, the Creator of heaven and earth, that our hearts find peace.

The longing remains the same throughout the years. God’s offer to fulfill our longings does too.
