I am almost bursting with rage inside. It has been a long time since I have been as angry as I am right now. I am standing on a football pitch with a dozen young people. All day long, I had been looking forward to a good game of football in perfect weather conditions. But I realised that my teammates were not taking the game seriously at all. Rules were ignored, there was no ambition, and there was a lot of talking – overall, the whole thing was more like a coffee party than a football match.
For a really good football match, it is important that the basic rules are followed and that there is a certain level of seriousness, otherwise the whole thing quickly ends up as a coffee party.
The football match is not essential. Not everyone loves football as much as I do – I have to accept that. We are all part of creation. If there is a Creator, the question of our relationship with him is absolutely relevant. I believe that we are not a product of chance. I trust that God created the earth with all its facets – including me. A successful and reconciled life springs from an orderly relationship with our Creator.

A friend told me a remarkable story. Once, when he was on a hike, an ibex shook its head in front of him as if to say: ‘Stop, don’t go any further!’ At that exact moment, a huge avalanche of rocks and snow came down 100 metres in front of my friend. Can you believe this story?
In the Bible, we also read about an equally incredible event: Jesus, the Son of God, died on the cross, was buried and rose again after three days to save us. Do you believe that?
We were not present at either event. It therefore requires faith to believe it.
Faith is the supporting reason for what we hope for: trust already reveals what we cannot yet see.
Hebrews 11:1
Faith begins with having confidence in what we hope for. Jesus promises those who believe in him that they will have eternal life. This is a promise that has yet to be fulfilled. Here, too, we must believe that Jesus will keep his promise.
Take the time to think about your own faith. Is your faith filled with confident hope?

Ein Freund erzählte mir eine bemerkenswerte Begebenheit. Als er einmal auf einer Wanderung war, schüttelte vor ihm ein Steinbock den Kopf, als wolle er sagen: «Stopp, geh keinen Schritt weiter!» Genau in diesem Augenblick kam 100 Meter vor meinem Freund eine gewaltige Stein- und Schneelawine herunter. Kannst du diese Geschichte glauben?
In der Bibel lesen wir auch von einem ebenso unglaublichen Ereignis: Jesus, der Sohn Gottes, starb am Kreuz, wurde begraben und ist nach drei Tagen auferstanden, um uns zu retten. Glaubst du das?
Wir waren bei beiden Ereignissen nicht dabei. Daher erfordert es Vertrauen, daran zu glauben.
Der Glaube ist der tragende Grund für das, was man hofft: Im Vertrauen zeigt sich jetzt schon, was man noch nicht sieht.
Hebräer 11,1
Glauben beginnt damit, Vertrauen in das zu haben, auf das wir hoffen. Jesus verheisst denen, die an ihn glauben, dass sie das ewige Leben haben. Das ist eine Verheissung, die sich erst noch erfüllen muss. Auch hier müssen wir daran glauben, dass Jesus sein Versprechen halten wird.
Nimm dir die Zeit, über deinen eigenen Glauben nachzudenken. Ist dein Glaube von zuversichtlicher Hoffnung erfüllt?

We are on the alp. After a hot summer’s day, dark clouds gather and cover the green mountain landscape. In the meantime, it has become dark outside and it starts to rain. The tin roof covering the alpine hut allows us to hear the raindrops particularly well. Then suddenly a bright flash in the night sky and shortly afterwards a loud bang! We flinch and are glad to know that we are safe in the cosy alpine hut.
Natural phenomena such as thunderstorms awaken a sense of awe in me. They make me realise how small I am in relation to the universe and remind me of a psalm in the Bible.
I look up to the sky and see what your hands have created: the moon and the stars – you have given them all their place. What is man that you think of him? How small and insignificant he is, and yet you take care of him.
Psalm 8:4-5
The size of the universe compared to our existence could trigger feelings of fear or inferiority in us. But just as the alpine hut was our safe haven in the midst of a storm, God wants to be your refuge in the midst of the fears and questions of your life.

Wir sind auf der Alp. Nach einem heissen Sommertag ziehen dunkle Wolken auf und überdecken die grüne Berglandschaft. Inzwischen ist es draussen dunkel geworden und es beginnt zu regnen. Das Blechdach, mit dem die Alphütte bedeckt ist, lässt uns die Regentropfen besonders gut hören. Dann plötzlich eine greller Blitz am Nachthimmel und kurz darauf ein lauter Knall! Wir zucken zusammen und sind froh, uns in der heimeligen Alphütte in Sicherheit zu wissen.
Naturphänomene wie Gewitter wecken in mir ein Gefühl der Ehrfurcht. Sie lassen mich erkennen, wie klein ich in Anbetracht des Universums bin, und erinnern mich an einen Psalm in der Bibel.
Ich blicke zum Himmel und sehe, was deine Hände geschaffen haben: den Mond und die Sterne – allen hast du ihren Platz zugewiesen. Was ist da schon der Mensch, dass du an ihn denkst? Wie klein und unbedeutend ist er, und doch kümmerst du dich um ihn.
Psalm 8,4-5
Die Grösse des Universums verglichen mit unserer Existenz könnte in uns Gefühle von Angst oder Minderwert auslösen. Doch wie die Alphütte unser sicherer Zufluchtsort mitten im Gewitter war, so will Gott dein Zufluchtsort inmitten der Ängste und Fragen deines Lebens sein.
