I remember how excited I used to be every year on Mother’s Day! Early in the morning I would rush out to the flower-covered meadow to pick the prettiest flowers for the breakfast table. Of course my Mother’s Day letter was never missing! Every year I wrote my mommy a few loving lines about how much I love her and how thankful I am for all of the love she gives me.
Last year, when my mother passed away, I rediscovered all of these little letters. She had kept them over all the years–my love letters, which she had received as an answer to her love!
We love because he first loved us.
1 John 4:19
God himself is love. He loves you and wants you to get to know his love. God’s love becomes visible in Jesus Christ. His death on the cross is what reconciles you with God. What proof of his love!
Do you love Jesus? He is always there with an open heart and open arms. You can be just as you are–with all of your joy, your questions and doubts. Why not write him your “love letter” today?

Im Frühling stand ich am Meer, die Wellen umspielten meine Füsse, am Himmel türmten sich Sturmwolken auf, und der Wind peitschte mir ins Gesicht. Ich wusste, dass ich sofort einen Unterschlupf brauchte. In der Nähe entdeckte ich eine kleine Hütte im Sand und eine weiter entfernt, die fest in einen felsigen Hügel eingebaut war.
Welchen Unterschlupf würdest du wählen, um Schutz zu suchen?
Wer sich meine Worte nur anhört, aber nicht danach lebt, der ist so unvernünftig wie einer, der sein Haus auf Sand baut.

Wir alle bauen unser Leben auf etwas auf. Jede Entscheidung, die wir treffen, hat Auswirkungen. Wenn die Stürme des Lebens kommen, wird das, worauf wir unser Leben aufgebaut haben, entscheiden, ob wir stehen bleiben oder fallen.
Lebensstürme sind unvermeidlich, und Herausforderungen werden kommen. Doch wir können aussuchen, auf welchem Fundament wir unser Leben aufbauen möchten. Ich bin dankbar, dass ich mein Leben auf Jesus Christus aufgebaut habe.

In the spring I stood by the sea, and the waves swirled around my feet. Storm clouds were gathering in the sky, and the wind slapped me in the face. I knew that I needed to seek shelter immediately. I discovered a small cabin close by and another one that was built on a rocky hill further away.

We all build our lives on something. Every decision we make has its consequences. When the storms of life come, whatever we have built our lives upon will determine whether we stand or fall.
Life’s storms are unavoidable, and challenges will come our way. We still get to choose which foundation we want to build our lives on. I am thankful that I have built my life on Jesus Christ.

Mai 1886
In Paris entstand die Idee, den Eiffelturm zu bauen, und in Atlanta wurde das «Coca-Cola» erfunden. In Chicago strömten am 1. Mai 1886 Tausende Menschen auf die Strasse und demonstrierten inmitten der wachsenden Industrialisierung für bessere Arbeitsbedingungen. Sie forderten unter anderem eine Reduzierung der üblichen dreizehn Stunden pro Arbeitstag und einen gerechten Lohn dafür. Bei den blutigen Protesten kamen Dutzende Menschen ums Leben, darunter Polizisten und Demonstranten.
Nach diesen Ereignissen wurde der 1. Mai offiziell als «Kampftag der Arbeiterklasse» ausgerufen. Später wurde er in zahlreichen Ländern zu einem Feiertag, an dem traditionell für Arbeitsrechte und andere politische Angelegenheiten demonstriert wird.
Der Arbeiter ist seines Lohnes wert.
1. Timotheus 5,18
Ein Wert, den wir bereits in der Bibel finden. Der Autor, Paulus, appelliert hier für eine gerechte Entlohnung und Wertschätzung für die Arbeit des einzelnen Menschen. Herzlichen Dank für die Arbeit, die du tust! Das ist ein wichtiger und wertvoller Beitrag für unsere Gesellschaft.
In einem anderen seiner Briefe schrieb Paulus, dass das Recht auf Lohn nach getaner Arbeit im Willen Gottes für uns entspringt (siehe Bibeltext). Gott setzt sich für unser Recht ein. Unser Wohlergehen ist ihm wichtig.
Die Bibel erzählt von einem Gott, der sich selbst nicht zu schade war, seine Hände schmutzig zu machen. Gott wurde Mensch. Er nahm Spott, Misshandlung und letztendlich sogar den Tod in Kauf, um die Beziehung zwischen Mensch und Gott wiederherzustellen. Dies hat weitreichende und ganzheitliche Auswirkungen auf unser Leben – bis hin zu den Arbeitsrechten.
Gottes leidenschaftliches Anliegen ist dein Wohlergehen. Dieses entspringt aus einer intakten Beziehung zwischen dir und Gott.

May 1886
The idea of building the Eiffel Tower was born in Paris and “Coca-Cola” was invented in Atlanta. In Chicago, thousands of people took to the streets on May 1, 1886 to demonstrate for better working conditions in the midst of growing industrialisation. Among other things, they demanded a reduction in the standard thirteen-hour working day and a fair wage. Dozens of people were killed during the violent protests, including police officers and demonstrators.
After these events, May 1 was officially proclaimed a “day of struggle for the working class”. It later became a public holiday in many countries, where demonstrations are traditionally held for labour rights and other political issues.
The worker deserves his wages.
1 Timothy 5:18
AA value that we find in the Bible already. The author, Paul, appeals here for fair pay and appreciation for the labour of the individual. Thank you very much for the work you do! This is an important and valuable contribution to our society.
In another letter, Paul wrote that the right to receive wages after work is done originates in God’s will for us (see Bible text). God stands up for our rights. Our well-being is important to him.
The Bible tells of a God who is willing to get his hands dirty. God became man. He accepted mockery, abuse and ultimately even death in order to restore the relationship between man and God. This has far-reaching and holistic implications for our lives – right down to labour rights.
God’s passionate concern is your well-being. This stems from an intact relationship between you and God.
