Verbitterte Menschen erkennt man am Gesicht, ihrer Mimik und den Augen. Ihr Äusseres kann die innere Zerrissenheit nicht über decken. Mobbing, Demütigungen, Missbrauch, Verluste… tun weh. Lange fürchtete ich mich, verbittert zu werden. Von Traurigkeit und Enttäuschung zur Verbitterung ist oft nur ein sehr kurzer Schritt.
– Hanna aus der Bibel wurde wegen ihrer Kinderlosigkeit ständig gekränkt. Sie weinte und konnte nicht mehr essen. Still betete sie zu Gott. Er antwortete ihr und sie bekam einen Sohn, Samuel, was «von Gott erbeten» heisst!
– Der Prophet Habakuk verstand nicht, warum Gott ausgerechnet das brutalste Volk jener Zeit brauchte, um Israel in schreckliche Gefangenschaft zu führen; er brachte alle seine «Warum» vor Gott!
– Tief traurig redete Hiob aus bitterem Herzen zu Gott und liess seinen Gefühlen freien Lauf. Beide Männer bekamen keine Ant worten auf alle ihre Fragen, aber eine tiefere Beziehung zu Gott. Sie konnten sich mit ihrem schweren Schicksal versöhnen. Das wünsche ich auch Ihnen. So werden Sie Ihre Verbitterung los.

Nach dem Löschen eines grossen Waldbrandes fand ein Feuerwehrmann einen verkohlten Klumpen am Boden, den er als Überreste eines Vogels identifizierte. Er wunderte sich, dass sich dieser nicht rechtzeitig vor dem Feuer in Sicherheit gebracht hatte. Der Mann kippte den Vogel um und darunter kamen vier kleine, piepsende Vögelchen hervor. Die Mutter ahnte, dass ihre Jungen allein im Feuer chancenlos gewesen wären. So spannte sie ihre Flügel über die Jungen und liess sich selber vom Feuer verbrennen. Was für eine Mutterliebe!
Gott weiss, dass wir, ähnlich wie die jungen Vögel im Waldbrand, in unserem Leben hilflos und verloren sind. Er entschied sich, zu uns zu kommen, um uns zu retten. Gott gab seinen einzigen Sohn Jesus Christus, der mit seinem Leben für unsere Sünden am Kreuz bezahlte. Wer sein Angebot annimmt, ist für immer gerettet!
Gottes Liebe zu uns ist für alle sichtbar geworden, als er seinen einzigen Sohn in die Welt sandte, damit wir durch ihn leben können.
After extinguishing a large forest fire, a firefighter found a charred lump on the ground. He later identified this charred lump as the remains of a bird. He was surprised that the bird had not chosen to fly away and escaped the fire in time. The man overturned the bird and four small squeaking babies were underneath. The firefighter suspected that the mother knew that her babies had no chance to fly away and wouldn’t have survived in the fire alone. So, instead of leaving them, she stretched her wings over her young and let herself be burned by the fire. A mother’s love is a powerful thing.
God knows that, like the young birds in the forest fire, we are helpless and lost in our lives. He decided to come to us and save us. God gave his one and only Son Jesus Christ, who paid for our sins by death on the cross. That is why, like those birds, whoever accepts his offer is saved forever!

Our hands… what an ingenious all purpose tool! We can touch, grasp, hold, pick up, throw, catch, write, open, close.. we can do a lot of incredible things with our hands. However, we can also do a lot of damage. Our hands do what we tell them to do. Therefore, we have to be diligent in what we choose to do with them.
It is wonderful when we use our hands to serve others, when our hands are outstretched to our neighbour in need. When we use our hands to help, and to raise others up. The crazy thing is that whoever helps others also helps himself. Service fills our hearts and gives us joy back. It’s how God created it.
Let us therefore, use our hands as tools to help and not destroy, to raise up instead of tear down, to love instead of hate. Let’s use our hands for the good of God and allow people to see his heart through us.
The second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ No other commandment is greater than this.
