Without water, we dry out! Plants, trees, animals, humans – we all need water. Everyday about 6000 people die of thirst and 663 million do not have access to clean water. In Europe, we often turn the faucet without thinking about it. It should make us think though. To be thankful doesn’t cut it. Everyone is called to task. Practical change is needed.
It is awful when folks die of thirst. The fact that people die of spiritual thirst is even worse. Our soul needs living waters from Jesus which revives us. Otherwise we are spiritually dead.
Jesus says: “But whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”
Throughout the ages, greed has never been either eradicated or satisfied. As a result, the gap between the rich and the poor, and between North and South keeps increasing. Huge salaries are paid out despite protests, even if it means that the weak are the ones “paying” for this. The unfair accumulation of wealth damages our souls.
Is it wrong to earn money honestly? No! Greed is also at home in slums. The real issue is the self-serving greed for more money and power. This predisposition is deep-seated in our hearts. It is not immediately apparent in each one of us.
What does the Bible mean by “losing one’s life”? Jesus voluntarily paid the price for the destructive sin in us with His own life. He relinquished his own desires and served his Father with complete devotion. Whoever follows Jesus and accepts his reconciliation, receives forgiveness and with it also healing and deliverance. With him you gain new, eternal life, which desires eternal, everlasting values.
What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul?
Durch alle Epochen hindurch konnte die Gier nach Besitz weder ausgerottet noch befriedigt werden. Deshalb klafft die Schere zwischen Arm und Reich, Nord und Süd ständig auseinander. Riesige Saläre werden trotz Protesten ausbezahlt, auch wenn Schwächere dafür zahlen . Unfaire Bereicherung hinterlässt Schäden in unserer Seele. – Ist recht verdienen schmutzig? Nein! – Die Raffgier ist auch im Elendsviertel zu Hause. Der eigentliche Defekt ist die egoistische Gier nach Geld und Macht. Diese Veranlagung liegt tief in unseren Herzen! Sie ist nicht bei allen sogleich erkennbar.
Was hat ein Mensch davon, wenn er die ganze Welt gewinnt, aber zuletzt sein Leben verliert?

Was meint die Bibel mit: «sein Leben verlieren»? Jesus bezahlte freiwillig mit seinem Leben für die zerstörerische Sünde in uns. Er verzichtete auf seine Wünsche und diente seinem Vater mit ganzer Hingabe. Wer Jesus nachfolgt und seine Versöhnung annimmt, empfängt Vergebung und damit auch Heilung und Befreiung. Mit ihm gewinnst du neues, ewiges Leben, das ganzheitlich, erfüllend und unvergänglich ist..
Giovanni absolvierte ein geniales Training mit einer traumhaften Abfahrtszeit. Er fühlte sich topfit und siegessicher. Seine Gegner waren beeindruckt und etwas traurig. Teamkollege Riccardo war ebenso gut vorbereitet, riskierte aber auf der Trainingsfahrt nicht alles. Er hatte sich vorgenommen, an einigen Passagen am Renntag richtig aufzudrehen. Der Renntag kam und Riccardo gelang eine Glanzfahrt. Er schlug die gesamte Konkurrenz mit über einer Sekunde Vorsprung. Als auch der letzte Mitfavorit die Zeit nicht unterbieten konnte, war der Sieg sicher. Riccardo hatte sich nicht auf das Training fokussiert, sondern auf das Rennen.
Menschen, die Christus vertrauen, erleben etwas Ähnliches. Sie sind auf der Erde in der Trainingsphase und noch nicht am Ziel angelangt. Sie wissen, dass noch vieles nicht so ist, wie es einmal sein wird. Wer an Jesus glaubt und ihm vertraut, ist gerettet und auf der Siegerseite. Der Tag kommt, wo der verborgene Glaube ganz zum Vorschein kommt.
Ich halte geradewegs auf das Ziel zu, um den Siegespreis zu gewinnen. Dieser Preis ist das ewige Leben, zu dem Gott mich durch Jesus Christus berufen hat.
Giovanni completed a wonderful training session with a fantastic downhill time. He was in top form and was certain that he would win the race. His opponents were impressed and somewhat sad.
His teammate Riccardo, was equally well-prepared, but he didn’t risk everything during his training sessions. He had planned to really turn the heat up at some sections on the day of the race. On that day, Riccardo won the race with an amazing downhill run. He beat the entire competition by more than a second. When even the last competitor couldn’t beat his time, it all became clear. Riccardo hadn’t focused on the training, but rather on the race itself.
People who trust in Christ experience something very similar. They are in a kind of training phase on earth and have not yet reached their destination. They know that there is still so much that is not yet how it will one day be. Whoever believes in Jesus and trusts Him is saved and on the winning side. The day is coming when the faith that is now hidden will be fully revealed, and everything will become a reality.
Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me.
