A builder can be admired for his plans. If he runs out of money after he has laid the foundation, he is ridiculed as a fool. That’s why Jesus urges his followers to consider the costs before building. Even today, pillars of a parkade that are overgrown by weeds are silent evidence of a never finished project and bad planning. What a shame for all the investors. Instead of admiration there is head shaking and scorn.
Jesus wanted to remind his disciples that they can also meet setbacks. He knew about personal hostility. He pointed out that life with him will not always be easy. He taught that the servant will not fare better than his master.
If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.

It is a privilege to live with Christ right now! The eternal perspective makes me joyous and hopeful.

Ein Bauherr kann für seine Pläne bewundert werden. Geht ihm das Geld aus beim Bauen, wird er belächelt. – Noch heute zeugen mit Unkraut überwucherte Säulen eines nie fertig gebauten Parkhauses von einer Fehlplanung. Wie schade für alle Investitionen. Anstatt Bewunderung gibt es Kopf schütteln und Hohn.
Deshalb forderte Jesus seine Zuhörer auf, die Kosten der Rückschläge als Nachfolger zu überdenken. Er erlebte viele persönliche Anfeindungen. Deshalb gab er zu bedenken, dass es seine Jünger nicht immer einfach haben werden. Er lehrte, dass es dem «Knecht» nicht besser ergehen werde als seinem Herrn.
Jesus sagte: «Wenn einer mit mir gehen will, muss ich für ihn wichtiger sein als alles andere in seinem Leben.

Es lohnt sich, die Kosten realistisch zu planen und vor allem die ewige, hoffnungsvolle Perspektive mit einzubeziehen!

Ein Bauer säte Getreide. Einiges fiel auf den Weg, welches die Vögel aufpickten. Anderes unter die Dornen, wo es bald überwuchert wurde. Jenes auf dem felsigen Boden wuchs schnell und verdorrte, weil es keine Wurzeln schlagen konnte. Der Rest fiel auf fruchtbaren Boden. Die Ernte brachte dreissig-, sechzig- oder hundertfaches an Ertrag.
Gottes Wort wird wie der Same überall ausgestreut. Unser Herz ist mit der Bodenbeschaffenheit zu vergleichen. Auf dem festgefahrenen Weg wird das gute Wort aufgepickt, bevor es etwas ausrichten kann. Der Boden auf dem Fels nimmt das Wort schnell auf, doch kräftige Wurzeln können nicht gedeihen, weil das Herz zu hart ist. Dornen und Disteln sind wie Sorgen und Gier nach Reichtum, welche die Pflänzchen ersticken. Der gute Boden bringt unterschiedlich viel Frucht. Jeder Mensch ist für seinen Herzensboden verantwortlich!
Der Same ist das Wort Gottes.

A farmer was sowing grain. Some fell on the path, which the birds pecked. Other kernels under the thorns, where they were soon overgrown. The seed that fell on the rocky ground grew quickly and withered because it could not take root. The rest fell on fertile ground. The harvest yielded thirty, sixty or a hundred times of what was seeded.
God’s word is scattered everywhere like the seed. Our heart is to be compared with the condition of the soil. On the path that is stuck, the good word is picked away before it can do any good. The soil on the rock quickly takes up the word, but strong roots cannot flourish because the heart is too hard. Thorns and thistles are like worries and greed for riches, which suffocate the sprouts. The good soil bears different amounts of fruit. Every person is responsible for the soil of his heart!
The seed is the word of God.

… who is the farest one of all? Many people judge themselves by their appearance. Height, weight and appearance are very important. Some aspire to a career as a model.
The Bible looks at the inner quality and beauty. It reflects our inner state. Anyone who studies the good news of the Bible will always find personal deficits in it. The Bible text from James 1:24 wants to encourage us to confront these deficiencies with God’s help. Our own strength reaches its limits, but in a healthy relationship with Jesus we are changed and formed and formed. For Jesus, the problem is not primarily our deficiencies, but the lack of trust in his person.
For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.
