Wir brauchen Licht, sonst tappen wir im Dunkeln. Wir brauchen es, um uns zu orientieren und sicher nach Hause zu finden. Wir sehnen uns danach, weil es uns wärmt und erfreut.
Abertausende Lichter leuchten in diesen Tagen an Bäumen, in Fensternischen, in Vorgärten und an vielen Fassaden unserer Häuser. Sie erfreuen uns und erhellen die Finsternis.
In dieser dunklen Jahreszeit feiern wir Weihnachten. Ein Lichterfest? Nein, denn wir feiern nicht die Lichter – wir feiern Jesus als das wahre Licht der Welt.
JA, denn jedes einzelne Licht will uns Hinweis sein auf das eine große Licht, das wir in diesen Tagen feiern: Jesus Christus.
Schon der Prophet Jesaja hat darauf hingewiesen: Dem Volk in der Finsternis wird «ein großes Licht» erscheinen. Und er konkretisiert: «Uns ist ein Kind geboren, ein Sohn ist uns gegeben.» Wer mit ihm unterwegs ist, findet den Heimweg.
«Ich bin das Licht für die Welt.
Wer mir nachfolgt, wird nicht mehr in der Dunkelheit umherirren,
sondern folgt dem Licht, das ihn zum Leben führt.»

We need light otherwise we walk in the dark. We need it for orientation and to find our way home safely. We long for it as it warms and makes us happy.
Thousands of lights are glowing on the trees, in windows, in gardens and on the facades of our houses. They give us joy and enlighten the darkness.
During this dark season, we celebrate Christmas. A festival of lights? No, because we do not celebrate the lights – we celebrate Jesus as the true light of the world.
YES because every single light wants to point towards the one big light which we celebrate these days: Jesus Christ.
And ye shall seek me, and find me , when ye shall search for me with all your heart. 14 And I will be found of you, saith the LORD: and I will turn away your captivity, and I will gather you from all the nations, and from all the places whither I have driven you, saith the LORD; and I will bring you again into the place whence I caused you to be carried away captive.

Isaiah the Prophet told us: The people in darkness will shine a “huge light”. And he continued: “A child is born, a son is given to us.” Those who are on the way with him will find their way home.

Astrologists from the orient went on the long journey through the desert. Did they discover the start which the seer Balaam (Numbers 24:17) spoke about? They were certain that their calculations were right and that the star declared a new reign in Israel.
Anyways, they went to the king’s palace. Herod was irritated and questioned the religious elite. They pointed towards a word in prophet Michah, according to whom, the saviour was born in Bethlehem. There, the wise men found everything like it was foretold, worshipped Jesus like a king and gave him gold, frankincense and myrrh.
The scientists didn’t just sit on their calculations but made the difficult way to search for Jesus and to find him. Accordingly their happiness was without limits.
Christmas is going, seeking and finding. Have you found Jesus?

Sterndeuter aus dem Orient machten sich auf einen langen Weg durch die Wüste. Hatten sie den Stern entdeckt, welchen der Seher Bileam (4. Mose 24, 17) voraussagte? Sie waren sich sicher, dass ihre Berechnungen stimmten und dass der Stern eine neue Herrschaft in Israel ankündigte.
Jedenfalls suchten sie den königlichen Palast auf. Herodes war von ihrem Besuch irritiert und bot die religiöse Elite auf. Die verwiesen auf ein Wort im Propheten Micha, wonach der Erlöser in Bethlehem geboren werde. Dort fanden die Weisen alles wie vorausgesagt, ehrten Jesus wie einen König und beschenkten ihn mit Gold, Weihrauch und Myrrhe.
Diese Forscher blieben nicht gemütlich auf ihren Berechnungen sitzen, sondern machten sich auf einen mühsamen Weg, Jesus zu suchen und auch zu finden. Entsprechend kannte ihre Freude keine Grenzen.
Weihnachten ist hingehen, sehen und finden. Haben Sie Jesus schon gefunden?

The creator of the universe came as a helpless baby. His mother put him in a manger. She didn’t have any other space.
Would a 5 star hotel make due for the son of God or does the “newborn king of Jews” have a right for a spot in Herod’s palace?
Everywhere, Jesus was rejected. Herod wanted to kill him as he worried for his crown. The religious elite refused him as the promised messiah and turned him to an earthly court. One of his disciples betrayed him for money and the crowds that just hailed “Hosanna” booed loudly at the cross.
What Jesus endured for us! Not even the horrible death on the cross stopped him. But now he is rehabilitated and sits to the right of God. The powers in heaven and earth are his.
He deserves a special place in my life.
