I ran away from home and was working as a bar keeper in Italy. We drank regularly and did drugs. It was about 4 AM when a friend put a calendar into my hands. A young lady gave it to him today. He thought that it was rather my religion.
The next morning, after being a bit clearer in my head, I started to read. I discovered an envelope with the address of a small church in town. At the next opportunity, I went there. I was taken in with a lot of love and understanding for my problems.
Being the son of a pastor in Argentina, I turned my back to Jesus for eleven years and did drugs and alcohol. With the help of these people, I could leave that behind and I turned to Jesus again.
This son of mine was dead. And now he is alive again. He was lost. And now he is found.’ “So they began to celebrate.
Luke 15:24
Today, I am in Argentina, married and explaining to many people the way to God. I feel like the lost son who came back home.

Ausgerissen von zu Hause, arbeitete ich in Italien als Barkeeper. Wir betranken uns regelmässig und pumpten uns voll mit Drogen. Es war schon gegen 4 Uhr morgens, als einer meiner Kollegen mir einen Kalender in die Finger drückte. Eine junge Frau habe ihm diesen heute geschenkt. Er denke, es sei eher meine Religion.
Als ich am Morgen etwas klarer bei Verstand war, begann ich darin zu lesen. Ich entdeckte auf dem Umschlag die Adresse einer kleinen Kirche der Stadt. Ich ging bei der nächst-besten Gelegenheit dorthin. Dort wurde ich mit viel Liebe und Verständnis für meine Probleme aufgenommen.
Als Sohn eines Pastors in Argentinien hatte ich Jesus während elf Jahren den Rücken zugewandt und mich in Drogen und Alkohol verstrickt. Mit Hilfe dieser Leute konnte ich alles hinter mir lassen und mich neu Jesus zuwenden.
Heute bin ich in Argentinien, verheiratet und erkläre vielen Menschen den Weg zu Gott. Ich fühle mich wie der verlorene Sohn, der zu Hause angekommen ist.
Mein Sohn war tot, jetzt lebt er wieder.
Er war verloren, jetzt ist er wiedergefunden.

We sacrifice in favor of reaching a goal or winning something. We sacrifice money and time for hobbies, travels, family or other goals. A fitness studio advertises “We have the temple – you bring the sacrifice”. It seems to be evident for everyone. The reason why there were sacrifices in the Old Testament isn’t clear to everyone. Let’s continue on with the biblical thought of our broken relationship with God. The consequence of sin is death. In the sacrifice ritual the sin of men was transferred to an impeccable animal which was slaughtered and burned. Millions of animals lost their lives so sin was “covered”.
The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him. John said, “Look! The Lamb of God! He takes away the sin of the world!
John 1:29
Because men sinned, a sinless man had to die in their place. The final sacrifice was given through Jesus at the cross. Everyone who believes receives forgiveness! Jesus covered everything for us. The sin is atoned, God reconciled. The guilt has fallen off. We are free.

Wir Menschen bringen Opfer, um etwas zu erreichen oder zu gewinnen. Wir opfern Geld und Zeit für Hobbies, Reisen, Familie oder andere Ziele. Ein Fitness-Studio wirbt mit dem Slogan: «Wir haben den Tempel – du bringst die Opfer.» Das scheint allen klar zu sein.
Warum im Alten Testament Tiere geopfert wurden, ist nicht allen klar. Nehmen wir den biblischen «Roten Faden» der gestörten Beziehung zu Gott wieder auf. Sünde hat unweigerlich den Tod zur Folge. Im Opferritual wurde die Sünde eines Menschen auf ein fehlerloses Tier übertragen und dieses geschlachtet und verbrannt. Millionen Opfertiere liessen ihr Leben, damit Sünde «zugedeckt» wurde.
Weil Menschen gesündigt haben, musste aber ein sündloser Mensch sein Leben stellvertretend hingeben. Dieses endgültige Opfer brachte Jesus am Kreuz. Alle, die an ihn glauben, erhalten Vergebung! Jesus hat alles für uns vollbracht. Die Sünde ist gesühnt, Gott ist versöhnt. Die Schuld fällt ab. Wir sind befreit.
Ergreifen Sie jetzt die Hand Ihres Retters!
Seht, das ist Gottes Opferlamm, das die Sünde der Menschen wegnimmt!

What does freedom mean? Does it mean that you can do or not do whatever you want? Take vacation without being accountable to anyone? Deciding for yourself, up to and including suicide?
God gave us commandments for our protection. However no one can say he didn’t transgress. Sin creates slaves, but Jesus liberates. He makes it possible that we do God’s will wholeheartedly not according to the letter, but with the leadership of the Holy Spirit. Our human nature does not want to do what pleases God. We need to lead this battle. Good that God is patient.
Christ has set us free. He wants us to enjoy freedom. So stand firm. Don’t let the chains of slavery hold you again.
Galatiens 5:1
Freedom requires a decision. You decide how you treat your freedom. The immeasurable love for us humans gave Jesus the strength to die for our sins. He paid a high price in our place not so we can lead our own lives but so that God’s strength and honor would be visible in our lives.
