The music scene is full of love-texts. Our heart longs for love. Because he loves us, God gave his only son into the world. Generations waited in trust for God’s commitment. In God’s time, the Saviour was born, a helpless child, human like we are.
God becoming human in Jesus is a critical point in God’s story with us. The Almighty comes down from the heavens and becomes needy and vulnerable just like us. In his family-tree, we find a number of people. There are Israelits and foreigners, successful and losers, men and women of various reputations. He wasn’t embarrassed because of it. Jesus experienced being human with all its facets.
But then the right time came. God sent his Son. A woman gave birth to him. He was born under the authority of the law.
Galates 4:4
In Jesus, God shows us the way he is: Pure love. They nailed Jesus to the cross where he gave his life for our salvation.

Die zehnjährige Sara war Feuer und Flamme beim Wettbewerb für die höchste Sonnenblume. Eifrig pflanzte sie drei Sonnenblumenkerne in einen grossen Topf, begoss sie regelmässig und wartete darauf, dass die Sprossen aufkeimen würden. Aus welchem Samen würde wohl die grösste Pflanze wachsen? Jeden Tag schaute sie nach, aber es passierte nichts. Sichtlich enttäuscht vergass sie nach zwei Wochen die Sonnenblumen und den Wettbewerb.
Ein Jahr später leuchteten drei wunderschöne Sonnenblumen in der Nachmittagssonne im Versuchstrog. Die längst vergessenen Samen brachten grosse und wunderbare Blumen hervor, auf denen die Bienen Nektar fanden!
Manchmal erwarten wir wie die kleine Sara, dass unser Engagement sofort Wirkung zeigt oder ein Echo findet. Paulus ermutigt uns, nicht müde zu werden Gutes zu tun.

denn zu seiner Zeit werden wir auch ernten,
wenn wir nicht nachlassen.»

10-year-old Sara was excited to participate in the competition for the tallest sunflower. She planted three sunflower seeds in a big pot, watered them regularly and waited for them to sprout. Which seed would turn into the tallest flower? Every day she checked, but nothing happened. She was quite disappointed and after two weeks, she forgot about the sunflowers and the competition.
A year later, there were three beautiful sunflowers radiating in the afternoon sun. The long forgotten seeds brought forth large, beautiful flowers which provided nectar for the bees.
Let us not become tired of doing good. At the right time we will gather a crop if we don’t give up.
Galates 6:9
Sometimes we expect, just like little Sara, that our activities turn into instant results or resonate somehow. Paul encourages us to not get tired of doing good.

Im Berner Alpenmuseum erinnert ein gerissenes Hanfseil an den tragischen Tod von vier Männern, die nach der Erstbesteigung des Matterhorns am 14. Juli 1865 abstürzten. – Die Schuhsohlen des einen waren zu glatt, seine Erfahrung zu gering und das Seil hielt dieser Belastung nicht stand. Das Rettungsseil riss im entscheidenden Moment.
Unser Leben gleicht oft einer Erstbesteigung. Viel Unbekanntes, mangelnde Erfahrung, gefährliche Situationen und tödliche Abgründe. Selbst der Profi trägt das Risiko mit sich. Unser Leben ist sehr fragil und bietet letztlich wenig Sicherheit. – Und plötzlich ist sie da, die Frage nach dem Sinn des Lebens und nach Gott…
Gut, wer den Schöpfer als Retter kennt. Es ist lebenswichtig, ihm in «guten Zeiten» zu vertrauen lernen. Auf ihn ist Verlass. Seine Liebe kennt keine Grenzen. Sie hält jedem Absturz stand.
Nur Jesus kann den Menschen Rettung bringen.
Nichts und niemand sonst auf der ganzen Welt rettet uns.

In the Alpine Museum in Bern, a broken hemp rope reminds us of the tragic death of four men after climbing the Matterhorn for the first time on July 14, 1865. The soles of one’s shoes were too slippery, his experience lacking and the rope didn’t stand up to the forces. The emergency rope broke at the crucial moment.
Our lives are often similar to a first ascent. A lot of unknowns, lack of experience, dangerous situations and deathly abysses. Even an expert bears a risk. Our life is fragile and offers little security. And suddenly it is there, the question about the meaning of life and about God…
You can’t be saved by believing in anyone else. God has given us no other name under heaven that will save us.
Acts 4:12
Great, if you know the creator as saviour. It is virtual to trust him during “good times”. He is reliable. His love is unlimited. It can bear any fall.
